Farmer protest in India is an ongoing topic around the globe. In this blog, we are talking about some of the major points to be considered regarding this. This post was originally seen in a Nepali Facebook Page “Bheda Nepal“.

Indian farmers are already some of the poorest people in the world. Around 50,000 farmers commit suicide in India every year, resulting mostly from poverty. Government is planning to let the private sector buy and sell agricultural products. The farmers don’t trust the private sector and want the government to set up a minimum price for agricultural products.

Why are the Farmer trying to come to Delhi?

Farmers have been raising this issue for years. Government has ignored their voices so far, so they want to march to the Parliament where the Farm bill is being passed.

And the government is using every tactic to stop them from reaching the capital.

So who is right? Rihanna or Kangana Ranaut?

Rihanna. Not only Kangana is wrong, Akshay Kumar, Karan Johar, Sachin Tendulkar. Everyone who doesn’t support the poor farmers’ fight for their survival is WRONG.

This incident has also exposed how Bollywood and Influencers are just fancy government mouthpieces using ultra-nationalism to push whatever the Modi Government agenda at the time is.

Is Farmer protest India’s Internal matter and outsiders should not speak up?

Firstly, Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

Secondly, they are not just Indian Farmers; they are THE farmers who are serving the entire world. India is one of the biggest agricultural products exporter in the world. So they are AMERICAN Farmers, They are NEPALI farmers too, and they are EUROPEAN and AFRICAN farmers too. So, we all should support this farmer protest.

Farmer protest: What is the solution?

Short term solutions:

  • Listen to the Farmers.
  • Cancel the Farm bill.
  • Set up and enforce a minimum purchase price for agricultural products.
  • Reform the Mandi system.

Long term solutions:

  • Indian and Nepali style agriculture is unsustainable. It is just not possible to feed the family and afford the basic necessities of life farming in a few hectares here and there. Most farmers today should be completely waned off farming and trained for alternative professions. So, for the long term solution, these farmers should be provided with new technological equipment, machinery, and skills to produce and sell their products.
  • Farmers should be given opportunities to sell their products directly to the consumer or any other manufacturing companies at an appropriate price.

Let’s make this Farmer Protest successful.
