Tourism in Nepal is one of the most important industries. Tourism is a service industry, which has been growing at a fast rate to be one of the biggest industries in the world. According to WTO (world tourism organization), In 1995 A.D. there were more than 5000 million tourists and they generated more than 315 million dollars.

IMPORTANCE OF TOURISM IN NEPAL

Tourism provides social, cultural, and educational benefits as well. Therefore, tourism is important for Nepalese prospects in the following ways:

1. Source of Foreign Currency:

Nepal earns a lot of foreign currency through the tourism industry. Different taxes paid to the government are the major source of revenue for the Nepalese government.

2. Trade development:

Many tourists come to Nepal to take back some articles, instruments like handicrafts, garments, carpets, and other products, with them back to their homes. So, that there is no doubt that tourist helps in trade development either domestically or internationally.

3. Employment generation:

It is estimated that more than 10% of employment is provided by the tourism industry of Nepal. A report on employees related to the tourism industry shows that there are over 1.5 million Nepalese workings in the tourism business generating more than 40 million Nepali currencies every year.

4. Infrastructure/ regional development:

This construction of airport highways and trekking routes all shows the basic importance of tourism. A large number of hotels restaurants lodges etc. also show that tourism helps in infrastructure development.

5. Cultural development:

From the tourist, we can learn about their culture, religion, social status, living styles and in exchange we provide them information about our culture.

6. Sources of public revenue:

Tourism is also a valuable source of public revenue. The government earns income from travel trade in the form of hotels and restaurants, tax, visa fees, airport, tax, mountaineering, royalty, etc. The revenue can be invested in various development works and develop new tourists’ destination by public sectors.
